SUMMARY:Sonic Bloom Permaculture Action Day
DESCRIPTION:June 16th\, before Sonic Bloom Festival begins\, come to the Permaculture Action Day at District ONE Farm at John Mall High School in Walsenburg – https://www.facebook.com/events/230070644039546/ \n\nOn your way to SONIC BLOOM 2016\, Colorado\, come to the local community farm to put down energy into a lasting regenerative space that will provide nutrient-rich\, organic food to the people of Walsenburg\, Colorado. The second poorest county with the worst nutrition on record in the state\, Walsenburg is building an organic\, community farm to create greater food access to the people. \n\n\n \n\n\nSONIC BLOOM has found its home at Hummingbird Ranch 20 minutes away\, and it’s time to create reciprocal relationships of soldiarity between us\, the festival community\, and the local communities that welcome us into their homes. Between the beginning of the permaculture design and implementation plan of Hummngbrid Ranch\, and the creating of the nearby farm and community center in Walsenburg\, we’re creating the interconnected\, regenerative world we all have been talking about. \n\n\n \n\n\nJoin the Permaculture Action Network for a day of installing a rainwater harvesting and irrigation system\, constructing low-tunnel greenhouses\, installing a proper composting system\, and building and planting raised beds. \n\n\n \n\n\nAs always\, we’ll have a celeratory convergence of workshops\, music\, shared meals\, and discussions on furthering the transition to a just and regenerative world\, integrating our communities into the patterns of the natural world. And\, as always\, the Permaculture Action Day is absolutely FREE and everyone is welcome to attend – whether you are staying for the festival or not. This is about coming together as community to take action and start building the world we want to see. \n\n\n \n\n\nWant to learn how to design through a permaculture framework? How to catch and store water in the soil through earthworks? How to design food forests and productive polycultures of plants that will produce year after year? How to design ecovillages and organize your own community and neighborhood? \n\n\nJoin us for the SONIC BLOOM Academy • Permaculture Action Series in the three days before the festival starts – June 13th-16th. With an incredible team of facilitators\, this course will prepare you with the skills and tools we all need to transition to a more ecologically-integrated\, community-oriented way of living. \n\n\nGet the details and register at http://sonicbloomfestival.com/academy/permaculture/

SUMMARY:'A Permaculture Action Story' Documentary Film Screening
DESCRIPTION:Join Jasmine Saavedra of the Permaculture Action Network for a question and answer and screening of the Permaculture Action Tour documentary at Whole Earth Festival. \nThe first Permaculture Action Tour launched from San Francisco in late September 2014 and embarked on a 32 city quest to empower fans through community action and permaculture education. We travelled with musicians The Polish Ambassador\, Ayla Nereo\, Mr. Lif\, and visual designer Liminus encouraging fans from their show to come out the following days to get their hands dirty in an organized permaculture action day. \nWe visited eco-villages and permaculture project sites\, worked with local organizations and volunteers to transform communities\, to spread sustainable and regenerative practices\, from building earthships\, creating community gardens\, planting food forests\, to cleaning up public space. These action days engaged thousands of fans across the nation to get involved with projects in their communities and immersed them in a work party focused on building the world so we all can live in it. \nWe held a permaculture action day in each of the 32 cities we visited\, bringing direct community action and education to the concerts and their audiences. With overwhelming support\, we held multiple days of action and multiple project sites in several cities\, and mobilized thousands of people. \nCome watch the feature length documentary and discuss with tour organizer and co-founder of the Permaculture Action Network\, Jasmine Saavedra. \nFacebook event page: https://www.facebook.com/events/725408570935680/

SUMMARY:Urban Adamah Two Week Permaculture Design Course - Berkeley\, CA
DESCRIPTION:Learn more: http://urbanadamah.org/events/permaculture-design-course/ \nThis intensive Permaculture Design Course\, lead by permaculture experts Dave Boehnlein and John Valenzuela\, will inspire you to participate in nothing less than the transformation of our world. \nWe live in a critical moment: our biosphere is straining to support seven billion+ people; communal structures are failing to meet the basic needs of millions; the divide between those who have and those who don’t grows ever larger. This is a course about the tools to create a world grounded in sustainability\, justice and love. It is a course about building regenerative communities on all levels. \nPermaculture has been defined as “a holistic approach to landscape design and human culture\, integrating several disciplines including biology\, ecology\, geography\, agriculture\, architecture\, appropriate technology\, and community building.” Our course will integrate each of these fields\, and include lectures\, discussions\, hands-on projects\, field trips to local East Bay permaculture sites\, and a final group design project. Participants will be taken through 72 hours of core curriculum and will receive a Certificate of Permaculture Design upon completion of the course. \nThe course will draw upon the expertise of an amazing team of permaculture educators who bring with them decades of experience in the areas of Food Production and Propagation\, Rainwater Harvesting\, Compost and Soil Building\, Earthworks\, Natural Building\, Community Organizing\, and a diversity of other components that can make healthy human and ecological living possible. \nCurriculum \nYou can view the full curriculum here. \nThe Urban Adamah PDC will explore: \n• Permaculture Ethics and Principles\n• Reading the Landscape; Site Assessment and Analysis\n• Design Methods\, Strategies\, and Mapping\n• Annual & Perennial Production\n• Food Forests and Agroforestry\n• Soil Building and Fertility Management\n• Climate and MicroClimate strategies\n• Renewable Energy Systems\n• Water Management Strategies & Grey Water Systems\n• Livestock & Animal Systems\n• Aquaculture\n• Plant Propagation\n• Structures and Natural Building\n• Urban Permaculture\n• Community Building & Collaborative Group Dynamics\n• Financial Strategies & Alternative Economies\n• Earthworks\n• Bioremediation\n• Land Access\n• Soil Carbon Sequestration \n  \nCourse Site\, Schedule and Details\nCourse Schedule \nThe course begins at 3:00 pm on Sunday\, May 1 and ends on Sunday\, May 15 at 6:30 pm. May 7 and May 14 are full days off. Classes start at 8:30 am on most days and end at 6:00 pm\, with a few additional classes from 7:30 – 9:00 pm on some evenings. There is a lunch break from 12:30 – 2:00 each day. (Times subject to slight changes) \nAbout the Site \nThe Urban Adamah Farm is located on a one-acre lot in the heart of Berkeley\, and includes raised beds for vegetables\, flowers\, herbs and fruit\, greenhouses\, an aquaponics system\, outdoor kitchen\, teaching tents\, meditation spaces\, chickens\, bees and milking goats. The farm produces a diverse yield of organic food which is donated to the local community through both food banks and a weekly free farm stand. The farm is in the midst of transitioning to its new permanent site in West Berkeley and through the PDC\, participants will gain tangible design experience helping to envision exciting possibilities for the new site. \nCourse Meals \nUrban Adamah will provide mostly organic lunches each day of the course\, with vegetarian\, vegan and gluten-free options. Please let us know if you have any specific food allergies. We will also be offering three catered dinners on nights when we are having evening sessions. Otherwise participants are encouraged to bring their own dinners or grab a bite at one of many food establishments in the neighborhood. There is a kitchen on site which you are welcome to use to prepare vegetarian meals during the course. We will have hot water\, tea\, and fruit set out each morning and throughout the day. \nFor all info on course registration and teachers’ bios\, visit http://urbanadamah.org/events/permaculture-design-course/
